Errol Flynn and Olivia De Havilland

There certainly is such a thing as screen chemistry, although I don’t believe you find it frequently. There was a definite on-screen chemistry between Errol [Errol Flynn] and me. Before us, the most potent example was Janet Gaynor and Charles Farrell in the ’20s and ’30s. People should not be surprised by screen chemistry because, after all, life is chemistry.

  1. Did you know (if wikipedia is to be believed) that De Havilland and Joan Fontaine are both still alive (and haven’t spoken in 35 years, if I’m inferring correctly!)? It makes me long to watch Rebecca right now and think of that ingenuous blushing young hottie still out there breathing somewhere in the world . . .

Probably these things are common knowledge, but deaths tend to creep up on me . . . it’s only by happenstance that I seemed to find about Rohmer and R. Wood’s passing within a day of the events. Well, godspeed the siblimgs De Havilland!

  2. Olivia DeHavilland and Joan Fontaine are both definitely still alive, at least according to the Internet Movie Database. I read Joan’s autobiography years ago “No Bed of Roses”. Olivia is supposedly writing hers now. According to the bio on Joan, they had problems getting along since they were children, but did not completely sever the relationship until 1975 when their mother died. I love both actresses. And wasn’t Errol Flynn to die for?
